Dear Parishioners, I am very happy to share some exciting news about the recent victory of the Saint Anthony Basketball Team. Our Junior team (Grades 4-6) won the Catholic Athletic League D-2 Junior Championship beating the team from St.Teresa’s, 25—18. They completed the season undefeated at 10-0. Father Stephano and I attended the exciting final game at La Salle Academy Gym last Saturday. I am most grateful to Tom Malloy for coaching the team and his leadership over the years of our basketball program. Saint Anthony Parish has had a commitment to this sport for decades with many successful teams and very dedicated coaches. This was the reason when the Parish Center was designed in 1989 that a regulation size court was incorporated in the plans. Over the years our population of young people has been reduced for a variety of reasons. But the gym stands as a commitment to encourage our youth in the sport. A batting cage was also installed for long ended Saint Anthony Together in Prayer Baseball league which served hundreds boys and girls in the town from the 1970s. We are so proud of our youth who are the future of the Church.
I also want to invite you to join Father Stephano and myself on the Jubilee Pilgrimage to Rome next October. There are openings which I hope we can fill. Information is available by calling the rectory. We have set Tuesday April 1st at 7pm in the Parish Center for a more detailed presentation on the trip. Hope you can join us.
