Scenes from the 40th Annual

Saint AnthonyFeast

Great time had by all!!!!

Dear Parishioners,

Our 40th Annual Saint Anthony Feast was a tremendous success last week with fabulous entertainment, delicious Italian and other kinds of food, and popular amusement and rides. With preparations taking place weeks in advance, plans were carefully made, covering even the smallest detail. The only variable which can never be controlled, of course, is the weather. Fortunately we didnt have to worry again this year because the conditions were close to ideal for an outdoor event. It was encouraging to see so many of you attend, especially Presentation parishioners who were most supportive and ready to work together. The Grand Raffle sold out early into the second night and the Pot of Gold exceeded last years total. Congratulations to the winners whose names are published! The Flea Market was a great success also with little left over which was given to Big Brothers. I am so grateful to the many who volunteered before, during and after the event and especially the men of the Holy Name Society for dismantling the setup on Sunday night. We are in process of compiling expenses before a final determination can be made but Im cautiously optimistic that you will be pleased with the net profit. There is more good news for the Catholic Charity Appeal this year with all three parishes surpassing their goals!! Finally we wish all our fathers a very blessed FathersDay as we remember them especially in our prayers. May God bless your week!

Father Ed

VILLAGE OF EL ROSARIO KITCHEN UPDATE

A few months ago we shared pictures of the kitchen that was in the process of being built in El Rosario. We now have some  pictures of the completed exterior and interior and one of some very grateful children. Thank you for all of your support.

HOLY FAMILY HOME INCREASE IN RESIDENCY

Each year, Holy Family Home has conducted a count of the number of “bed nights” that it provides to homeless woman and children.  A “bed night” is defined as one person in one bed for one night.

In calendar year 2016, Holy Family Home provided approximately 7,037 bed nights.

In calendar year 2017, Holy Family Home provided approximately 8,977 bed nights, an increase of 1,940 bed nights.

In addition, we have seen a substantial increase in the amount of persons who are calling the shelter directly.  In order to ensure fairness and statewide outreach, each caller is then referred to the state hotline, 211.

CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL IN ACTION

A little over a year ago, a man, who we will call Jose, arrived. He was separated from his family, homeless, hopeless and was suffering from an opiate addiction. After 30 days, he seemed to feel better about himself and started to open up more about his situation. He was able to get off the opiates with an alternative program. He moved to the honor dorm and he started to work. He bought tools he needed, and a vehicle for transportation. One day at work Jose fell off a ladder and broke his ankle, and needed surgery.  Around this time a series of hurricanes struck Puerto Rico where is elderly mother, daughter, and grand daughter live.  Jose postponed his surgery, sold his tools and vehicle and bought a ticket back to Puerto Rico to help rebuild his mothers home. He knew he could not sustain his continuing recovery there and returned back to Emmanuel House to restart his recovery there. Jose knew that he would have support  there and he could have his surgery knowing the staff would help him.  Jose is currently doing well with his recovery from his surgery and addiction. He is grateful for the help he is receiving from Emmanuel House. (God’s House).

ON LINE GIVING REMINDER

For all families who are currently using the online giving program we ask that you log into your account and update any information that has changed since you setup your initial account. This is also a good time to check your statements to see that your offering is being processed as you originally set it up. We have received notification of expired credit cards and invalid email addresses. Also, you should only set up your account once and have your offering deducted from that account; there are a few users who set up a new account each time they make an offering. If you have not signed up for online giving, please consider doing so. Log onto the parish website, stanthonychurch.org, click on the online giving icon, choose the church you are registered at and follow the menu driven screen. The help desk for all online questions is  1-800-348-2886 ext 4.
