THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

In Confession we encounter the merciful embrace of the Father.  His love always forgives.

ROSARIO CHILDREN’S FUND

Profits from this year’s Saint Anthony Feast which Youth Ministry volunteers raised were contributed to the construction of a playground for the children of the primary schoolhouse in the village of Rosario, Guatemala.  The families from the village are so grateful since public funds for such needs are almost non - existent.  As you know, the visit of our youth mission team last year which brought new shoes and school supplies inspired us to make a commitment to assist them with educational and other reasonable needs.  A class trip away from the village, Christmas presents, and children’s clothing have made such a difference in the morale of the village that attendance at school has increased.  A playground outside the school in an area where the children usually play with old car tires propped in the bare ground is the latest project where the villagers are enthusiastically transporting sand in buckets and making cement for the foundation.  We are fortunate that Saint Anthony Weekend Sacristan Angelo Minervino and his wife Sandra have visited there this summer to see the results of our generosity.  Sandra’s nieces teach there so we know firsthand the needs in this extremely poor area.  We need additional funds for the completion of the project and are requesting donations made to Saint Anthony Church for the Children of Rosario.  Pictures of the progress will be on the parish website for your review and we will periodically keep you updated.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ANDREA AIELLO

We extend our congratulations to Andrea Aiello who received the Horace Mann Crystal Apple Teacher of the Year award during this past school year.  She will be teaching the third grade at Lonsdale Elementary School in Lincoln this September.  As a young parishioner, Andrea attended our Religious Education Program and has taught in several levels of our CCD program in the past.  She returned last year to teach one of our fourth grade classes and will continue this year as well.  She is also one of our advisors in our Youth Ministry Program for the Passion Play that takes place during the Lenten season.  We are extremely proud of Andrea’s accomplishments and are blessed to have Andrea share her faith and teaching talents with our young parishioners.  May our Lord continue to bless her with His wisdom and guidance.

CONGRATULATIONS TO RAY BONENFANT ON HIS

100TH BIRTHDAY

Father Ed and the Saint Anthony Parish family extends prayers and best wishes to Ray Bonenfant on this special birthday.  Since 1988 Ray has been active in the financial affairs of the parish, serving on the Finance Council and as Parish Auditor.  In recent years he relocated to Massachusetts to be closer to his children and had to resign from the auditor’s position although he was always available for consultation.  His extensive knowledge of the financial records and practices over the years has been a blessing to the parish enabling it to remain on a solid foundation.  Ray’s wishes that donations be made on this happy occasion to Holy Family Home for the new playground project.  May God bless him with good health for many years to come!
